Sixteen-year-old Jamie Parker doesn’t want to break into an abandoned movie theater, and she definitely knows she shouldn’t set foot in the strange virtual reality machine that appeared out of thin air. But her friends certainly do, and the last thing Jamie wants is to have them think she’s too scared.
The VR machine was supposed to give them something fun to do in a vacant, boring mall. They didn’t expect it to be listening. Somehow, every word they speak while inside is used to create a series of new worlds. Some of them are terrifying, most are deadly, and all seem nearly impossible to escape.
Chased by vicious lions, escaping flooded cities and facing unimaginably horrifying monsters, Jamie and her friends have to learn how to work together before they can figure out how to escape the game. Otherwise, they might just die trying.
Jamie thought that she’d escaped the nightmare, but how could that be possible when the danger has followed her home? Forced to live with the man who tried to take everything from her, Jamie finds that escaping reality is almost as hard as the virtual worlds had been.
When Will disappears, and suspicions of his help with unimaginable illicit acts start to drive a wedge between the group of friends, Jamie can’t figure out which side she’s on. But it all, always links back to The man behind the machine.
He is always watching, and he doesn’t plan to ever let the game end.
